Design for the Environment

To improve the environmental performance of our products, Kimball Office uses a “Design for the Environment” (DfE) approach in its product development process. Environmental considerations such as indoor air quality, use of recycled materials, recycled content, and green certified materials are part of our product conceptualization and design.

Here are a few examples of our DfE approach to product development:

  • Our products are designed to last many years and carry a limited lifetime warranty
  • Our products are fabricated from metal, wood, glass, and aluminum, which are all recyclable
  • The steel used in our products contains approximately 30% post-industrial recycled content
  • Our particleboard is manufactured from 90% post-industrial waste
  • Various metal components feature a low VOC powder coat finish
  • We use low VOC, water-based glues on our products
  • Our surface materials include fabrics that are 100% recyclable
  • Our systems products are designed to be easily moved, reconfigured and refinished
  • The life of many products can be extended with refinishing and reupholstery
  • Our packaging materials are 100% recyclable
  • Environmental guidelines are used in contract agreements with external supply partners
  • Our suppliers are audited on their ability to meet and exceed environmental guidelines
